When MC Jimmy Danger (Tim Walker) takes control of the mic for a set by DJ BMK (Ben McKnight), it's quite clear the duo are on the same wavelength. Both adapt to the crowd's reaction, neither limit themselves to drum & bass, and they share a belief in the largely unknown, emerging talent, struggling to get a foothold in an ever-expanding scene.
The pair have since decided to do something about it, and recently announced the creation of their new label, Audio Danger Records.
"It has always been something I have longed to do," claimed Tim, "there wasn't enough labels taking notice of up-and-coming artists. There was so much talent, but no-one backing them, so along with BMK, and with help from Luke [Utah Jazz] and Andi [Coda], I started Audio Danger Records."
Similarly to the music they produce, the label is not tied down to one specific style, in fact, it's not even tied down to drum & bass.
"I listen to all sorts of stuff," he stated, "I MC with DJs in all sub-genres of drum & bass, and a lot of my friends are hip-hop rappers.
"We have a side to the label that supports hip-hop and dubstep as a result," said Tim, "we have many artists on this side of the scene, such as Dirty Dike, Strictly Speaking and Fourney P. If a tune is good, and we feel it would have mass-appeal, then we try and snap it up."
Audio Danger Record's debut release is entitled Twilight, with the original produced by Tim's 'right hand man' at the label, BMK. The flip-side takes a more mellow approach, with an exclusive remix by soulful drum & bass legend, Utah Jazz. 26 year-old Tim, is convinced that it could be the start of something special.
"We take a lot of pride in what we do," he said, "we only release on vinyl because we want our music to be exclusive, we're catering for the true DJs out there. Vinyl is the best format to own music, you can't hold a download, or put the artwork from an MP3 release on your wall. I guess I'm a little old fashioned like that, but you'll see with our releases why we want to give them the full 12" sleeves they deserve."
Always on the lookout for fresh talent, Ben and Tim are confident that their old-school approach will prove a big hit in 2010.
