Music and events PR company Backdrop is now also a DJ agency representing drum & bass artists like Camo & Krooked, Moving Fusion and Body & Soul. Main man Adam Savage explains why...

For those not familiar with Backdrop please can you introduce yourself and explain what you do...

Backdrop Promotions was established at the beginning of 2009 as a music and events PR agency specialising in electronic music, primarily drum & bass. Since then we've become one of the leading press agencies in our field working with some of the finest talent in the scene right now.

Shogun Audio, Critical, Breakbeat Kaos, Audioporn, Mainframe, Valve, Neosignal, Nasca and Urban Art Forms are just a few of our current clients.

Basically we instigate, mediate and consolidate printed press, online and radio plugging campaigns to help promote the music and artists we love to a worldwide audience.  

Why are you launching a DJ agency?

It's just a very logical step for us to start providing a DJ booking service for some of the artists we work with already. The clue's in the name, Backdrop Promotions!

We're not trying to step on anyone's toes, there are obviously a few very established agencies already who do a great job. But having actually worked at one of the bigger agencies in the past and having run our own events for years we have a lot of experience and feel we too can offer a great professional and knowledgeable service... this isn't new to us, we know how it works.

Plus with PR being at the core of our business we're also heavily equipped and connected to offer promoters a dedicated promo service for their event should they want it. Oh, and we're also one of the friendliest organisations in D&B you're ever likely to come across!

Who is on your books to begin with?

At the moment we're very focused on the talent of tomorrow. Mainframe's DisasZt is one of the stalwarts of the current Austrian invasion; a great DJ making some great music, currently in the studio with Shimon again too so should be some more good things to come.

Also Camo & Krooked, who are absolutely everywhere at the moment! Their recent debut album got major props all over and with beats forthcoming on BBK, Nasca, Audioporn and Viper their DJ sets are immense!

The same can be said for Body & Soul and Fourward, with both acts having had some serious success over the past couple of years with releases on Virus, Mainframe, Subsonik, Viper and more. Vitally they're also all sick DJ's! Big beats are flowing from their studios right now so watch out for them.

Lastly but definitely not least we're delighted to have the legendary Moving Fusion on board. For those that don't know, Moving Fusion was the name in drum & bass around the turn of the millennium. Been a bit quiet for the past few years but now Jeff's back and means business with a load of new material in the pipeline. He's even back in the studio with Sparfunk to recapture some of the old Moving Fusion magic which promises to be very special indeed. Biogs, press-packs and mixes are all available on our website.
 
Are you looking to take new DJs on?

Yes, we will be and are in talks with a couple of others but for now it's important we don't try and run before we can walk. Besides, the best things come in small packages don't they?
 
What are your plans for the future?

To continue growing Backdrop into a successful, all-encompassing promotions company. We're also now working with TV stations and clothing brands so really are becoming a one-stop-shop for independent labels and artists who want to stay ahead of the game.
