Seven years is a long time in clubland. Unless you've got a real niche, or a cellar stacked with greenbacks, it can be hard to find a foothold in the face of all the competition.
London breaks night Supatronix may not have the swagbags full of cash, but it has certainly carved itself out a niche in the capital's scene. The club is one of the longest-running breakbeat events in the UK, and has played host to the likes of Stanton Warriors, the Freestylers, Hybrid, Far Too Loud and High Rankin over the years.
Currently pushing the ravey breaks sound being pioneered by the likes of Skream, the night celebrates its seventh birthday on Friday May 28th at Brixton's JAMM club with an allnighter until 6am.
Headlining the breakbeat room will be booty heroes Deekline & Wizard (above), playing a rare live set featuring MC Ivory. The duo are fresh from the huge success of their album Back Up, Coming Through, which won the prize for best album at this year's international breakbeat awards, Breakspoll. In room two, Ninja Tunes' DJ Vadim heads up a hip-hop and funk-orientated lineup on a newly installed Function One soundsystem.
Entry is £10 on the door, but Kmag readers can get in for the bargain price of £6 before 11 by emailing [email protected] with the subject line: Kmag offer.
Supatronix boss Jurassik is also giving away a free rave-fuelled edit of the classic Joy Orbison track Hyph Mngo to celebrate the seventh birthday. To get your copy, just sign up to his new Facebook fan page and email the above address requesting either mp3 or wav.
