Please introduce yourself
Justin Iriajen (Rex), Iain Blackburn and Nick Hills (Boro) have been running Signal for five years now. We come from all over the country but have been living Bristol now for nine years. Nick also runs a smaller night with fellow resident In:sight which is called Inside Out
Where & when do your events take place?
Events currently take place at Lab for the more intimate nights and Motion for the big old bangers. We have also hosted rooms for other big promoters in Bristol such as S**t The Bed
What are the names of the residents?
Boro, In:sight, Rex, Texas, Messy MC, Akesie.
What's the night all about?
Signal was born because the drum & bass in Bristol at the time seemed to be the same old faces at the same old clubs. We wanted to do something different and push the producers / DJs that we liked not just those that were guaranteed floor fillers. We always wanted to put the freshest acts out as soon as possible and we have given Bristol debuts to the likes of Chase & Status, Subfocus, Cyantific and many more. We have always had nights where we can have a separate room for other genres and these have always proved to be popular. Lately we have teamed up with dubstep promoter SeasonFive.
How would you describe your crowd?
A real mix to be honest. We have students, youngsters and a fair mix of people past the 30 landmark. They always seem to be well behaved though.
Best memories from a night?
Marky playing last March was a real highlight.
What are your plans for the future?
We have our fifth birthday at Motion on November 6th. The line-up shows what Signal is about from front to back: Marcus Intalex & DRS, Alix Perez, Icicle, Blame, Brookes Bros, Wrec, SBTRCKT, Oris Jay, EL-B & MC Rolla + residents.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
Look out for Signal apparel in the next few years.
