Friday February 11th 2011 marked another meeting of one of the drum & bass scene's biggest labels at one of London's most popular clubs. We're talking about Ram Records at Fabric of course.
The line-up for room one featured the usual selection of Ram artists alongside Ed Rush & Optical and Alix Perez b2b S.P.Y and ensured every possible style of drum & bass was catered for.
Room three was held down by Spor and Lifted Music and throughout the night they also got the crowd moving with their take on drum & bass. With the man also known as Feed Me dropping tunes such as Kingdom, it was an exciting place to be the whole night.
Room two, with its unique line-up of dubstep and drum & bass artists was just as bustling. Dubstep DJ Jakwob featured alongside recent Ram signings Delta Heavy and Hamilton, all of which made for a unique blend of 140bpm and 174bpm alike.
However, it was inevitably room one that provided the most thrills. Wilkinson, one of Ram's most promising new producers, kicked things off and next up it was DC Breaks. After their energetic set Ed Rush and Optical took to the stage. The duo provided an intoxicating set from start to finish, with their techier style of drum & bass proving a huge hit with the crowd. With tracks like Audio's Stratosphere, it was yet another highlight of the night.
As usual the set of Ram boss Andy C was the most anticipated, and as the beginning to his three hour set drew ever closer, room one began to fill up, with even Chase & Status watching from behind the stage. He receives DJing accolades every year and his set made it easy to see why.
With MC GQ alongside him, the world's best drum & bass DJ produced a set full of brand new dubs mixed with old classics, and the manner in which he played them was predictably electrifying. Dropping classic tracks from artists such as Sub Focus and Chase & Status, to new dubs from recent signings such as Wilkinson and Loadstar, his set was evidence as to why Ram Records is arguably the premier drum & bass label.
Ram at Fabric is simply one of the best drum & bass nights around, and with new material in the pipeline from Ram's new blood as well as its old guns, there's every reason for it to remain so.
