Who said misbehaving doesn't do any good? After a successful start in December, charity bass-music night RAISE is ready for round two, another rave in the name of saving lives.
December 2010 and London's Corsica Studios welcomed a selection of bass-music's finest for the first installment of RAISE, a new forward-thinking night with a difference.
As dubstep heavyweight-Coki tore the dimly-lit dancefloor to pieces, before UK grime figurehead Terror Danjah did the same, it was fair to say that changing lives had never sounded so good.
The operation stems from Warwick University student's original charity project, EVE, which used a successful bass-music night in Leamington to generate £8,500 for Save The Children throughout 2010. Having expanded the movement to the characteristic surroundings of Elephant & Castle, the team have also cranked up the tempo to the 170 BPM mark for their next event on March 4th.
Klute, Stray, Blu Mar Ten and Lynx make up the drum & bass headliners, and sit alongside some seriously talented young support DJs in Casual Parents, The Dirty Diamonds, Insiyt and Trefoil.
The dubstep schedule in room two is just as exciting, and sees Kryptic Minds take centre-stage alongside Fix Dot'm, Yung Meth and Pistonsbeneath. With a line-up as impressive as this it's no wonder the project is going from strength to strength.
The operation is entirely transparent, and regularly uses the official website to update its financial progress. By July 2011 it is estimated that the Warwick and London teams would have raised a combined £20,000 for a selection of worthy causes, selected after discussions with the ravers themselves.
Event coordinator Holly Rigby summarised the project neatly when we caught up with her. "It's a simple concept," she told us, "money should never be the incentive to put on exciting bass-music events, it should be all about the music.
"That's always been the case for us here at RAISE. The best acts, every penny to charity and we have a great time in the process."
There's something for everybody on the night, epitomised by the free promo mix kindly put together by the team at RAISE.
With a cutting-edge line-up coupled with a ready made excuse the morning after, why not get down to Corsica Studios on March 4th in the name of Save The Children. Misbehaving has never done so much good.
