Socialism flyer

Socialism celebrates its third birthday with a big event at Hidden on December 17th. High time for a Promoter Profile on them then...

Please introduce yourself...
I'm Tom Socialism, aka DJ Kombinate, and I started the event three years ago.

Where and when do your events take place?
Every two months at Hidden nightclub, London

What are the names of the residents?
Phantasy, Tenor Fly, Topcat, Shabba, A.I., Kane, Ragga Twins, Majistrate, Nicol, Remadee, Shockin B, DVS, Irie

What's the night all about?
We aim to bring a highly charged and unique 'family' vibe to the public.

How would you describe the crowd?
Our crowd is always a very healthy 50:50 ratio girls to boys. They appreciate that our flyer and line-up have attracted a no-nonsense lot who are here to party hard. We have never had any violence at any of our events. This is down to the atmosphere they help create for us.

Best memories from a night?
It has to be when we had Herbal completely rammed for MC Remadee's (Kool FM) birthday bash back in February. It was very satisfying to see the place that full and I was drinking champagne at the bar with the owners for most of it. I realised I had come a very long way since listening to peeps like Rema on my ghetto blaster when I was a kid and a wise man (Hype) once said to me that nothing else matters as long as you leave your mark on the scene. That night I felt I had done that, but even better than that I knew there was a lot more to come.

Tell us more about the events...
Over the years we have adopted quite a reputation for our flyers. After winning 'Flyer of the Month' in Kmag back in November '07 we realised we could make it our 'pièce de résistance'. I'm very happy when people mention how much they like them. A lot of effort is put in by various people to get them perfect and set them totally apart from the usual monotonous, anti-minimalist efforts of some of our competitors.

We're also fortunate enough to be able to look after our residents by arranging tickets for sport events. This helps us not only keep the costs down but, more importantly, I feel we see another side to our artists' performance and attitude if they have been rewarded with something other than cash.

We've already held sold-out events abroad, in countries such as Holland, and are always looking to spread the Socialism sound, so any interested promoters please get in touch.

What are your plans for the future?
We've just launched our website and we now sell high quality merchandise at our events, such as Socialism polo shirts. There is also talk of a joint Socialism & Epidemik rave which should be pretty spectacular. We also plan to do CD packs of the events, for exclusive sale in BM Soho, so keep an eye out. Remadee's Birthday Bash for 2010 takes place at Hidden on Thursday 11th Feb, so look out for that one too, it's gonna be huge.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about?

Finally we would like to send a big thank-you to Herbal. Their sudden closure was bad news for a lot of people. We sadly depart, with many happy memories and will strive to keep a part of their special vibe going at our new home Hidden. Peace!
