Jungle Train radio resident Nultiply tells us all about his Nu:sounds event...
Please introduce yourself
My name is Nultiply, I live in East London and I own and run Nu:sounds, which is a night that's been going around three years.
Where and when do your events take place?
Nu:sounds originally started in my home town of sunny Southend-On-Sea as I was fed up with the lack of diverse bass music in the town and wanted to offer an alternative. I have since left the Southend events in the capable hands of fellow DJ Nicky Greenfingaz while I kick off Nu:sounds London.
Who are the residents?
The original residents are the crew from Essex including 3dom, Nicky Greenfingaz, Shapemaker, Wade, Hi-def and myself.
What's the night all about?
Nu:sounds is pretty much what it says on the tin! It's about bringing through the new futuristic sounds of drum & bass and dubstep. At any Nu:sounds event we want attitude left at the door. It's all about good music and good vibes!
How would you describe your crowd?
We always have a laugh at the nights, we pull in a mixture of the new school crowd and the classic ravers which always makes for some interesting stories.
Best memories from a night?
One of the first nights when Komatic from Bassdrive radio came down and smashed it! And the group of ravers who wouldn't let him stop scratching because they were loving it so much!
The funniest thing to have happened at one of your events?
Lynx trying to find an MC in the crowd to join him and ending up with a terrible girl MC that split ear drums. We escorted her away from the mic pretty quickly!
Who has played the best set at your club in the last six months?
I think it was well over six months ago now but I've gotta say Lynx because he killed it! Looping the intro to Disco Dodo over and over until the crowd couldn't take it any more... it went off!!
Tell us all about your next night...
For our next night we take over the Plan B basement in Brixton on Saturday August 20th with Freedomize promotions. We've got the Jerona Fruits lads and the one and only Chris Inperspective headlining. Also reppin the drum & bass are DJ Rail and Priors with MC Sage and myself. Original crew member Hi-def will be opening with some fresh dubstep vibes and we have our first live act for Nu:sounds, HLI, a sick UK hip hop double act.
What are your plans for the future?
More events for sure, and we're not restricting ourselves to one venue in attempt to keep the night fresh. As far as the Nu:sounds brand, there is talk of it becoming a label but that's not something I want to rush into. I also need to get back on the Nu:sounds podcast series which is up on iTunes but has been neglected a bit of late due to being so busy!
Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
I host Nu:sounds radio on Jungle Train every Wednesday night at 22:00 GMT and I've knocked together a little promo mix for the Brixton event which you can download below.
