For most people, Las Vegas is synonymous with glittering neon lights and spinning slot machine reels, but more and more it’s making a name for itself in the world of drum and bass, dubstep, and the DJ scene as a whole. NightlifeinLasVegas now includes the chance to see some of the world’s top DJs play in intimate clubs and other settings, with Vegas drawing Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto, Pete Tong, and Deadmau5 on a regular basis.
Who better to explain the phenomenon than Tong himself, who had the following to say in a recent interview explaining the sudden rise of the Vegas music scene: “I wanted to get in there among it. Something has changed in Vegas recently and electronic music is really starting to take hold. The casinos used to use people like Sinatra and Dean Martin to get people in, but it has evolved and now dance music is the thing." Tong has played in the past at Encore Beach Club, where he held down a regular gig to the delight of fans.
Swedish House Mafia’s DJ trio of Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso were one of the headliners at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas in the summer of 2011 and have played impromptu guest spots at clubs around Vegas including Encore’s popular Surrender club. Fans will have to be on their toes, though, as there’s often little notice when big name DJs and other acts pop up in Vegas for a one-night stand or just a few shows.
The good news is that Vegas is more affordable than ever, as the lingering recession and a glut of hotel rooms means that a weekend trip to catch some of your favorite DJs in action can be very inexpensive, especially if you follow some basic LasVegashoteltips and guides and shop around for the best deals. Many hotels now offer steeply discounted rooms in the hopes of luring in more gambling and shopping dollars, so if you’re just there to check out music and can avoid the usual Vegas pitfalls that suck up your dollars it can be a great way to check out some amazing live music.
