Our next Thursday night Kmag Presents event at Cafe 1001 is on February 2nd features dubstep internet radio station Wednesd4ry and friends. Legend4ry from the collective tells us what to expect...

Please introduce Wednesd4ry…
Wednesd4ry is a collective from South East London consisting of three best mates: T4X, Melo and myself. We started DJing around 2006 when T4X bought a pair of decks after being submerged in the sounds of dubstep and wanted to start collecting the music on vinyl. Fast forward to 2010 and after playing a weekly show on a local pirate called WaxFM, we felt it wasn't for us as pirate radio has lost its purpose in this day and age when you can throw your own radio show from your house with none of the legal complications.

We bought our own domain, designed our own website and logo and started building the brand that is Wednesd4ry. We are about pushing the deeper side of dubstep every Wednesday and broadcast audio and live video of the DJs playing. We play from 8pm to 10pm GMT but as there are no time constraints of a usual radio station so we can go on for however long we want. I think this is the thing we are most passionate about, from our little spell on other stations such as RoodFM (which is one the best up-and-coming radio stations around), it just didn't feel the same when we were playing for another station, not ourselves.

You're taking over our Kmag Presents event on February 2nd, tell us a bit about everyone on the line-up...
For me, this is quite a special line-up; it combines the two things I love about being part of the world I am in. Great music and great people!

Crises is someone very close to the Wednesd4ry gang when it comes to what we believe in, we have the same views on this whole dubstep thing and we push the same kind of music, his Mindstep nights have been life changing experiences and his weekly show on Rinse is one of the only radio shows worth listening to.

Forensics' mixes were some of the first experiences with dubstep I think we had! From the archives of Barefiles (an old dubstep mix sharing site) you'll find Forensics had himself locked into dubstep since the early days, I felt very honoured when he hit me up asking for music which eventually lead to a few releases on his brilliant Methodology label which has some of the greatest music of recent times.

Myself, Legend4ry, I have been getting into various different types of bass music lately, being heavily inspired by the 130 bpm movement, and have always loved the percussion driven side of dubstep, so when I step up to the plate I bring an interesting listen for the ears and the body.

T4X carries a mean bag of tracks, from the bounce and groove of Silkie and Quest, to the darkness of Distance and J:kenzo. No matter what he plays you know it's always laced with an abundance of sub bass, making any crowd have a dance! Not forgetting it's always vinyl!

Melo is the eclectic master - his choices of tunes are a mixed bag of breaks, early half step, from garage to house all around the 140ish mark. His unpredictability makes for eager listening, always knowing how to work a crowd!

Do you ever put on your own events?
We have thrown a few in South East London for the locals and we enjoy throwing club nights quite a bit, but we still have a lot to learn. You can probably see a few nights from us this year but we don't want to focus on becoming a club night. I think a couple of one-offs is the way to go!

Where else can people see you DJ in the near future?
This year has actually been looking up for me already; later in the year I have a few residencies planned - I am playing GetDarker TV on March 13th and I have other bookings planned but not 100% confirmed.

You're planning on setting up your own label, what can you tell us about it at this stage?
Myself and Melo are in talks of starting up a label to release music. We are only in talking stages, but what we know for sure is that we will not just be releasing electronic music and we're not going to place ourselves into a specific genre and struggle to find our feet within those constraints. We are passionate about all styles of music so it makes perfect sense for us to go on a journey, finding timeless music opposed from just dance anthems.

Anything else you want to tell us about?
Well, let me say big ups for having us do this! Keep on the look out for Wednesd4ry in the future - we have huge plans for this year to further develop ourselves as DJs as well as the Wednesd4ry name.

I have the New Directions EP coming out on Kent-based label Dubstrict Records around April time, so keep an eye and an ear out!
