Drum & bass label Ingredients launch a new night at XOYO in Shoreditch on Friday February 3rd, we catch up with label owner Psylence to find out more.
Why have you started doing your own events and what can people expect at an Ingredients night?
Ingredients has had a good year but I feel that with so much music being made these days, labels need to keep pushing forward their concepts and club nights are the perfect platform. Expect quality! There's no particular agenda musically other than selecting the right artists s who I trust 100% will create a great night.
How come you're doing it at XOYO and what do you like about the venue?
I like the fact that it's a progressive venue who pull out some amazing line-ups week after week and it's great to have been approached to get involved with. It's not known for its drum & bass particularly and that's very appealing as a label. When Metalheadz went to the Blue Note it was a similar style club and ethos. We can't wait!
Will this be the start of regular Ingredients events at XOYO?
Hopefully, but we all decided we'd see how this first night went before discussing further.
Tell us more about what you've got in store for the first night...
dBridge is on top of his game right now & his MC - SP, just got voted the best in 2011, say no more! Dub Phizix, Skeptical and Strategy bring their fresh approach to drum & bass and hot on the heels of their huge hit Marka. Jubei is an exceptional DJ and Total Science have been prolific for 15 years so make sure you get there nice and early so you don't miss any of it!
Where can people see you DJ in the near future?
To be honest my DJing has taken a back seat for now. I just have so many other aspects to organise. Also, I prefer to get a feel for how the night is going at my own events and if I'm DJing too, it often distracts me from that. But with so many nights penned for 2012 I think I'll just have to get involved, because I still love it.
What's coming on the label in the next few months?
Out now is Scraper / Tunnel Vision by Krakota, soon followed by two new guys who have a split 12", The Jackal / Behemoth, by Kodo & Tyrone respectively. I've also compiled the first 17 releases into two digital compilations for people just getting into the label, it enables them to get a feel of what's been happening for the past two years. I've also got a 12" from one of my favourite producers at the moment, Villem, out in the spring and am compiling the Recipe Book Volume 2 album as well. Also plenty of new producers making their Ingredients debuts later in the year.
