Please introduce yourself...
My name is Charlie Joyce aka DJ Joy-C. I'm 23 and live in Dorset. I got into the drum & bass scene when I borrowed a friend's tape pack about 6 years ago, I then started going raving and bought my first set of decks.
What styles do you play?
I play heavy jump-up drum & bass. I have a fast style on three decks and I like to double and triple drop tunes throughout my sets.
Do you have any residencies or promote your own night?
I'm resident for the following events: Halfcut (Kent / Bristol), Skankers (Bristol) and Urbanfront (Bristol). All three put on massive nights at top venues and have huge plans for 2010 with some of the biggest names in the scene playing for them.
What's the best gig you played in the last six months?
In October I played for Halfcut Vs Movement in Kent and got on the decks straight after Bryan G and Skibadee. The club, crowd and vibes were mental and the system and set up were perfect.
What are the top three tracks in your record box right now?
Lomax - Jungle FX, Tantrum Desire - Electronic Brain and Deadmau5 - Ghosts and Stuff (Subfocus remix)
If you could warm up for any DJ in the world, who would it be, and why?
It would be Andy C every time for me, he has been my inspiration since I started mixing and I never fail to be amazed by his faultless mixing and tune selection. I also respect him massively for what he does for the scene generally.
The crowd is flagging and you need an emergency tune to stop them all going to the bar. What would it be?
Original Sin - Therapy. It smashes the dancefloor without fail every time.
Have you got into production yet?
I haven't yet but realise that I need to and I'm currently looking into what software I need. I can't wait to get into it and spend some serious studio time learning the ropes.
What's the next challenge for you?
As I mentioned I want to move into production but I'll also keep pushing my DJing forward and continue to grab the attention of promoters and play at big nights across the UK.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
I'd like to mention my wife Natalie who carries out all of my promotions, handles all of my bookings and deals with all of the promoters. We have both been signed (non exclusively) to Flawless DJ agency, in 2010 Natalie will be working for them as a promoter and I will be DJing for them across the UK. I am sponsored by two clothing companies, one is the UK based FARSTAR CLOTHING and the other is Canadian based SPUN TURTLE. I play every Thursday night from 10pm on a internet radio station called subbassfm.com
