Recently, dubsteppers and grime fans alike have been celebrating rather a lot. Why? Because FWD>> has returned to the seminal venue Plastic People to start a new chapter in the FWD>> legacy. A new fortnightly residency on the first and third Thursday of each month should definitely be enough to cater for any 'steppers who have been hungry for some more FWD>> action.
Kicking off the return of FWD>> on March 4th is a heavyweight line-up which will certainly be bringing more bass weight than the average human body can handle.
Head honcho of Wheel & Deal records, and resident Rinse FM DJ N-Type will be facing off against fellow Rinse DJ Youngsta as the main act for the night. Both N-Type and Youngsta have been around in the dubstep scene for quite a while, and both are heralded for their skills behind the decks, so this will make for a very good headline act.
Zinc joins the foray for the return of FWD>>. Possibly best known for the garage anthem 138 Trek (as Jammin) or for his jungle epic Super Sharp Shooter, and more recently, for his 'crack' house (better known as fidget house) exploits. Obviously, Zinc is one of the most respected artists in dance, pretty much hands down, because of his flawless transition as a DJ, from d'n'b, to garage, dubstep and now house.
Oneman is next on the bill, another Rinse favourite, and currently flying the flag for 2-step. Rather than releasing a hefty amount of dubplates, Oneman has gone a different direction and focus almost entirely on the DJing aspect, and made a name for himself along the way. He seamlessly mixes 2-step, dubstep, grime, garage, and just about any else.
Completing the line-up is the man in the mask, SBTRKT. This mysterious man was a major star of 2009 after some ridiculously good releases on Brainmath, as well as RAMP and Planet Mu. There is no question that SBTRKT is destined for another great year, as his tunes are so unique, with such a varied array of production styles appearing from song to song. Whether it is downbeat melodic techno or pulsating dubstep, this man seems to have a fair few tricks up his sleeve.
All in all, this is a pretty epic way to kick off a new residency.
Long live FWD>>
