Fizzy are celebrating their fourth year of putting on top drum & bass events with a new venue back in their spiritual home of Camden, resident / promoter MC Deefa tells us what we can expect...
You changed venue once already this year, why have you changed again?
After the Oh! Bar in Camden closed we felt it was the perfect opportunity to focus on the FizzyBeats label, so we threw a launch party at Departure in Aldgate to celebrate it. Since then we've been looking for a new home for the night back in Camden and have finally found it in the form of the Camden Rock.
Tell us more about the Camden Rock...
Camden Rock is right in the heart of Camden, on the corner of Camden High Street and Kentish Town Road, just one minute from Camden Tube. Situated across two floors with an overlooking balcony, Camden Rock is the perfect venue for a night our size. Originally set up for live bands, the club's in-house system can more than handle not only drum & bass but dubstep and hip-hop.
Why the switch to Saturdays?
Fizzy actually started on a Wednesday night back in 2005, we moved to Fridays in 2007 due to popular demand and that ran on until the Oh! Bar closed last year. When presented with the opportunity to start running our night on a Saturday, we accepted because we felt it didn't matter what night of the week we were on as long as that same bubbly fizzy vibe was there!
What have you got in store line-up wise?
We always try and keep our line-ups fresh and book headliners that we haven't tried before so for this re-launch we have enlisted DJ Bailey, Loxy and Andy Skopes to headline the night. All backed up by the resident DJs Mr Joseph, DJ Izzy and Dr Khan. We are also expanding the night's musical spectrum by incorporating hip hop and dubstep due to the fact that both Mr Joseph and I are now deep in hip hop and dubstep production.
How's the label going?
The first release is now in all good record shops around the world and has had a great reception from top DJs such as Fabio, Bukem, Marcus Intalex and punters alike. Look out for our second release due in the coming months with another soulful tune from Mr Joseph with Paul T providing the flip side.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about?
Well, having most of 2009 off from the promoting scene has given us all a chance to concentrate on personal projects. I've been busy performing across the UK and abroad and I'm also is currently working on a hip hop EP. Mr Joseph has been very busy this year locked away in the studio. Watch out for him in 2009, with forthcoming releases on labels such as Ennex Records, Good Looking, Influence Records and Addition Records to name a few. He's also got a few dubstep and downtempo tracks in the wings. DJ Izzy and Dr Khan have been busy promoting the Undone Boat parties on the Thames which have been a brilliant success. MC Cliché has hooked up with the Definition crew and has been performing at their events.
Fizzy's first night at the Camden Rock takes place on Saturday October 24th, go to www.fizzyliquid.com for more...
