Review: A Bunch Of Cuts @ Cable

Ryan Ashmore and Ajay Jayaram, aka the minds behind the promotions team We Fear Silence at London's Cable nightclub, decided to approach the London party scene with a unique outlook. Instead of picking a genre and fiercely sticking to it, they took their time and listened to as much music as they could get their hands on. The result is that they now host nights that cover a massive spectrum of styles, each one being given its own sub-brand. You may not realise that events like Chew The Fat, A Bunch Of Cuts, Shogun, Metalheadz all work in conjunction with We Fear Silence.

I was in attendance at their recent event, A Bunch Of Cuts, which caters for the deeper side of D&B. I must say I haven't been as excited about a London line-up as this one in quite a while. On the bill was Marcus Intalex, dBridge, Klute, Calibre, Doc Scott, Shy FX and Presha. You could tell that it wasn't going to be a standard night, the line-up was progressive in every sense of the word.

Upon arriving at Cable, there was a big queue outside. The crowd seemed a little older than your average D&B night and they seemed pretty diverse, from older heads to people in fancy dress. Security was friendly and efficient, as were all the club staff.

The entrance takes you into room two, which has an ample bar, nice lighting and plenty of seating, doubling up as a chill-out room. Room one was bigger and much darker, although still small enough that there's no chance of losing your mates after a trip to the bar. The DJ booth is centrally located on the back wall and raised slightly, ensuring a good view of the action. The sound system was awesome, and probably deserves its own paragraph, but suffice to say it was loud, crystal clear and offered great acoustics wherever in the room you chose to stand.

Presha was playing when we walked in, rolling out some steppy beats to warm up. Calibre was up next with DRS and the energy in the placed really bumped up a notch. He played a lot of his own tunes, including a load of new dubs I didn't recognise.

Other highlights on the bill were dBridge and SP:MC, who stood out as dBridge came with his own style, the tunes being a bit more musical. Marcus Intalex played a lot deeper, but there was a real energy in the sub-lines that kept the dance floor packed until about 5.30 when I decided to call it a night!

It's clear the guys at We Fear Silence are not gunning for your average Saturday night crowd. They put on nights for people who really know and love their music. As a result they cater well if you want a night out that hasn't been diluted to get the numbers in. They've done a great job making sure the venue is everything it should be, even the toilets are a pretty good experience!

I definitely plan to attend some more of their events, with Deviation and Metalheadz nights coming soon, expect to see me brocking out somewhere in the middle of the dance floor...
