Tom Edgar from BassLaced tells us all about his event...

Please introduce yourself...
My name is Tom and I'm from South East London, I started and run an event called BassLaced and have also been highly involved in the running of another well known D&B night called Detonate. BassLaced originally started in Nottingham but we now do events in London, recently Northampton, Sheffield and are planning on doing something in Loughborough soon. BassLaced has been running for three years in June.

Where & when do your events take place?
BassLaced happens on a monthly basis in Stealth in Nottingham and Cable in London.

Who are the residents?
Standfast, Velor and Mensah.

What's the night all about?
Simply: bass music

How would you describe your crowd?
We attract a young crowd who are into new music.

Best memories from a night?
Mala dropping Horrid Henry when we hosted a room at the Indoor Festival. Got about six rewinds, was absolutely ridiculous.

The funniest thing to have happened at one of your events?
For me personally, there was one show we did while I worked at Detonate with Pendulum. I'd been standing on stage with El Hornet and Jakes chatting for a while and then they started playing and I went to the bar through the crowd and all the girls seemed to think that I was a band member and I literally got mobbed, that was a fun for me anyway!

There was another time when some guy turned up at the door and was like 'I'm playing tonight in room one from 2-3am'. I had to say 'no you're not' because someone like N Type was actually booked to play at that time. He then got his phone out and showed me the text that had supposedly come from James who I work with telling him that one of the acts had dropped out and could he cover it. I had to point out that it had been April Fools Day earlier and his mates had obviously texted him as a prank. That was pretty funny, he looked completely distraught.

Who's played the best set at your club in the last six months?
David Rodigan at the Digital Soundboy night we did back in November, guy is a legend. Breakage was also on form that night, played a wicked set!

What are your plans for the future?
Just to keep going with what we're doing and build our reputation, take advantage of anything that comes my way in terms of opportunities and one day soon get a BassLaced clothing label up and running. I've been wanting to get a proper t-shirt range going for ages now!
