Bangerang

Leeds based event Bangerang are promoting their first night in London at The Westbury on April 22nd. We caught up with co-promoter David Stamp to find out more...

Please introduce yourself...
My name is David Stamp, I'm one of six dedicated Bangerang creators and promoters. Bangerang was founded in 2008 in a Hyde Park basement in Leeds. We focus on producing the best of various electronic genres, including hip-hop, drum & bass, dubstep, garage and house. We started as a house party and we have continued to bring a house party vibe to our nights by keeping the crowd going from start to finish.

Where and when do your events take place?
We do the majority of our events in Leeds, but most of us are from London originally. We worked with Lock & Load events at Brixton Academy on New Years, which was a lot of fun. They had everyone from Zinc to Katy B headlining and Katy ended up in our room at the end of the night skanking. We are now doing our first independent London event in Kilburn, at The Westbury on Friday April 22nd which we are all really looking forward to. It's a nice feeling being able to take Bangerang back to our hometown and we have Silkie headlining.

Who are the residents?
We have a lot of very talented residents including: The Menendez Brothers, Teknician, Marksman, Tamps, Buzzlin, Hutch, Beagle, Lo Note, Joey Nelson, Atak and ESB.

What's the night all about?
The Bangerang slogan is strictly house party vibes. We pride ourselves on surprising people with our line-ups, bringing the freshest up-and-coming artists such as Oneman and old skool artists such Oxide & Neutrino. We like to bring artists who we love, and who haven't played in Leeds before such as drum & bass phenomenon Netsky who played his debut gig in Leeds at Bangerang before he was an established Hospital Records artist.

How would you describe your crowd?
The Bangerang crowd is amazing! We have always got a lot of appreciation and encouragement for bringing artists such as Oxide & Neutrino who would never usually play in Leeds. We have realised how knowledgeable the Leeds crowd is and this has allowed us to be more experimental with our line-ups. The best thing about Bangerang is the atmosphere, we want to keep the crowd going from start to finish and beyond. We are renowned for our after parties that keep going till the early hours.

Best memories from a night?
My personal best memory was Oxide & Neutrino, I thought they created an amazing atmosphere in the club. Everyone was giving 110% and we even had a surprise appearance from Jenna G and the whole of Magnetic Man who had been performing nearby and heard about our event.

The funniest thing to have happened at one of your events?
We set up a big house party which started at 5am for Bangerang's most dedicated ravers. It was quite last minute so we had been decorating and setting up all day before we went to the club for the main event. We received a number of comical messages the morning after from people who were confused as to why they had colourful marks on their clothing. It turned out all the graffiti that had been done on the house walls wasn't dry yet, so various people who had been in contact with the walls were left with paint stains. We had a call the next day from a confused party goer who had woke up in bed with red stains all over his sheets. He explained that the girl he had taken home had left and he was covered in red s*** and didn't know what had happened! We decided not to tell him it was paint from the party, which lead to him phoning up the girl from the night before and angrily accusing her of ruining his sheets. She was not best pleased and I'm pretty sure they didn't rekindle there Bangerang romance.

Who's played the best set at your club in the last six months?
The best set we have had recently was Congo Natty and Tenor Fly. The legendary jungle producer had everyone's hands, lighters, drinks and whatever else was convenient in the air. He was amazing and even showed the venue something they had never seen before as he blessed the stage.

What are your plans for the future?
We have a London event on April 22nd featuring Silkie which I mentioned earlier. We are also involved in Hideout festival in Croatia on July 1st and so we are doing a Hideout festival launch party on May 25th in Leeds. This is an event starting at three and finishing at five so should be epic. We have really mixed it up this time getting the best of every genre. Including Logistics feat. Jenna G, Commix, Brokenenglish, No Faking DJs, Russ Yallop, Youandewan, Submerse and Eliphino. Not to be missed!!! Get involved!!! Join our facebook group to keep up to date with our events.
