It's taken me a week to fully settle my nerves after last Saturday... Two of the largest entities in Toronto's DnB community; Destiny and Torontojungle.com, worked together to set up one of the best events I've been to in a while, and had people talking about this party bringing back what DnB "used to be" in Toronto. Vibes.

Noisia headlining The Guvernment. Having spent about a month leading up to Jan. 15th 2010 getting amped up and telling every friend I've ever partied with how badly they needed to go, I was ready for a huge night of incredible sound, a selection of DnB even my biased ears would thoroughly enjoy, crisp cold drinks, and a giant crowd of rowdy partygoers... There was no hint of disappointment.

Arriving pretty early with a small group of close friends and a few beers already in to the game, Scott Free was warming up the system (I'll touch on that in a second) properly with an awesome selection of deep and moody tracks while people started to steadily pile into the venue. Now, this venue, is something that really deserves a paragraph to itself...

The Guvernment is the main room of arguably Toronto's best venue. Featuring one of only a few Phazon sound systems installed in the world, this room is absolutely something to behold for any electronic music connoisseur. Only a handful of drum & bass events have ever been held in the space, and after over a million dollars in renovations over the last year it was pretty stunning to see in full swing.

DJ Lush represented well with a bit of Amen work and big bassline tunes getting the crowd hyped, and MC hosts for the evening Trajady & JD got to work on the right side of the stage (as it lifted hydraulically off the dancefloor!). The lasers and lighting were absolutely spectacular. Building up over the course of the night, and peaking during the headline set, this club was busting with anticipation...

Noisia came on in a flurry of strobe lights, chest rattling sub bass, and an explosion of screams from the 800 or so people focused towards the stage. Contact started their set with a pretty intense vibe, and over the next two hours or so it was a wild ride of drums, synths, basslines and spilling beer.

I know I heard some amazing tunes from Noisia and was absolutely lovin' it, I know I heard some Mr.Oizo and some wild Prodigy business that made the whole club smile, I know Marcus Visionary came on sometime after last-call and kept the club bouncing properly, I know I made it through the coat-check line and got out of the club with the right people and all my belongings, and I know I woke up fully clothed with the lights on in my apartment the next day...

It was an unforgettable night (as much as may be missing, damn that awesome beer!), and I'm already getting amped for the next installment that the Projek crew has in store for the Mega City... ViRam in March you say? See you at the bar!
