The Canadian music scene lost one of its most talented and stand-out artists a few years ago, with the passing of Graham March (aka Desimal). November 18th 2010 marks his birthday, giving us the perfect opportunity to celebrate his life and accomplishments, and express our sorrow for the loss of a great influence on drum & bass music as a whole.
I personally did not get the chance to meet Graham, and for this I'm deeply saddened. However, I was made aware of his work through mutual friends, and the impact it made on my musical tastes is one that won't easily be forgotten.
Releasing music as Desimal, Graham's tracks made their way around the world on such labels as Barcode, Citrus, Renegade Hardware and Black Sun Empire. It's innovative, deep, exhilarating, motivational, and stands out from the pack even now, while drum & bass continues to progress.
Graham is survived by his son Seth, and a large group of caring family and friends. There is a tribute site online at http://www.grahammarch.com/ with a full biography, galleries of his artwork, a ton of music downloads, and more information about his life and struggles. I highly recommend you check it out.
Losing a member of our community is a sad story, though as some small consolation, we're given the opportunity to honour their contributions via the work they created. Our music changes so quickly it can be tough to keep up with, but there will always be a few noteworthy exceptions... Desimal is certainly one of them.
R.I.P.
