Got a mission statement? Give one to us...

Bass Drive was born from the lack of Urban Electronic music found in Montreal. It's an amazing city with so much potential but we felt it needed more in terms of alternate genres for the masses to go out and dance to. The night focuses mainly on Dubstep, DNB, Street Bass, etc. Anything bass heavy, complex drums, dark, grimey... that's Bass Drive.

What five things are the most important to you in setting up an event, and why?

Vibe: The most important thing at any event, in our opinion, is getting a good vibe going. I think the thing that makes us the most happy during our nights is the fact that people are there to appreciate the music. Every week there are new faces and it's a great feeling to have the place fill up with people on the dance floor who are really into what's being played.

Venue: We want to throw events somewhere that people feel comfortable and can come back again and again and always have a blast. Whether you're there to dance, drink or socialize, Koi is a wicked spot with slick suede couches everywhere, two bars, great bartenders, cheap beer, tones of subs, and it has really come to feel like home.

Talent: A huge focus of ours is on bringing the freshest talent we possibly can every week. We want to share the music we love with Montreal, whether it's to people that are extremely embedded in the scene, or people who may not have had the opportunity to have been exposed to this kind of music in the past. We are lucky to have some incredible talent within our city and fortunate to get to share these DJs and producers with others.

Promotion: We have always felt that promotion was one of the most important aspects in having a successful night. We put tonnes of time into planning ahead, and making sure people are informed about what we have going on. Our main goal is to get people excited about what's happening at future Bass Drive nights and to keep the sick beats coming.

Family: Although we (Vilify & Construct) put on the night, we would be nowhere without our Bass Drive family lending us a hand and contributing to the night being a success. We are fortunate to have people that are so excited about the night that they are happy to help in terms of promoting, many aspects of the night itself, and getting that dance floor going. We love our fam!

What future plans do you have for the company?

We just want to keep putting everything we can into making the night the best it can be. In around eight months we have grown so much. We have a wicked club with an amazing following of supportive people who are truly there for the music. We just want to keep giving talented locals the opportunity to show people what Montreal's electronic music scene has to offer and in addition, we also have a number of fresh headliners we can't wait to bring to Montreal. Our next big move will be starting to do some one-off weekend shows, bringing some massive headliners, and keeping the dancers and bass enthusiasts happy.

How much time goes into the planning & promotion of your average event?

Promotion is a non-stop project. We are constantly flyering, blogging, promoting on our radio shows, ensuring we are in listings in local papers, etc.  Planning and promotion go hand in hand. We aim to have talent booked months in advance in order to properly promote and create hype about our nights.

The funniest thing to have happened at one of your events?

Not really sure what the funniest thing to happen at Bass Drive has been... Fond memories of Living~Stone's happy birthday track made for Construct, Liz's Borgore T-shirt and the hardstep / breakcore / mosh-pits at the end of the night never cease to bring a smile to my face though!
