Senseless Records Synesthesia art project number 1: Smell by Song

Technicolour bass music label Senseless Records are celebrating their fifth birthday with an art / music project called Synesthesia. Label boss DeVille tells us all about it...

Tell us all about the Synesthesia project and why you're doing it...
It celebrates five years of the label and we decided to do it because we've always had almost as much passion for the art and design side of the label as the music so wanted to find a way to combine the two. We have asked five artists to contribute their take on one the five senses and each of them will be printed and inserted into a limited edition run of 250 vinyl. We wanted to make a physical product that people would really want to own, the sleeves are also hand screen printed.

Who are some of the artists contributing?
The artists are a diverse collection from across the world, like the label's music. We have one from Leeds where the label started, one from Australia, one from Brighton and one from Barcelona and one from Japan. Their styles are diverse but they have all come up with something really special for the project. For more info on the artists and to buy limited fine art prints go here.

What about the musicians?
Each of the five releases will have one legendary artist and two new artists, a mix of new discoveries and Senseless artists from before. The first release has grime legends Rossi B & Luca and two Polish producers Venice Calypso with his debut track, and The Phantom who we released an excellent EP from last year. It's available from July 25th.

What else are you doing as part of your fifth birthday celebrations?
We've already had a couple of parties, one at Corsica as a collaboration with a load of our friends called The London Borough of Bass including ZShed, Rag & Bone and Coin-OP. Then we did a 2000 capacity warehouse party in South London which was amazing. But we have plans for the rest of the year too including some festival stuff and hosting a small part of the FUSE festival for contemporary music and arts in Leeds at the end of the year, which we're really excited about.

Anything else you want to tell us about?
In between the physical releases, which will be three out of the five this year, we have amazing digital releases from Sarantis. A debut from Polish producers Space, Ladies and some classic grime from Rossi B & Luca.
