Mutated Zen gardens spiral, seamlessly, into a baroque -embellished monster. It can only be one of Matt Robinson’s latest creations...

 

This October sees Nick Nacks - a solo show of new artwork created by Bristol-based Matt - come to Solihull Art Gallery thanks to funding from the Arts Council England. Matt’s diverse visual vocabulary has been acquired from years of free association and has allowed him to create what he describes as 'a series of interconnected monoliths that serve as a commemorative monument to themselves'.

The creation of these sculptures were inspired by a series of workshops led by Matt in two Birmingham schools in Birmingham. These included improvisations, performance, storytelling and character development, leading to the group creation of two murals and a collaborative flipbook. The project includes the commissioning of three sculptures that will be installed at Smiths Wood Sports College and Grace Academy Solihull after the exhibition.
