Guide to getting editorial in Knowledge (and other magazines).
We are very friendly and approachable bunch here at Knowledge, so feel free to contact us about your coming projects. Here are some ideas to consider when approaching Knowledge or other media for news and features.
- For us, email is preferable to phone calls. If you phone we'll ask you to put it in writing anyway so we can relay information to our writers more accurately.
- Knowledge and most good news sources re-write press releases sent in, so you don't need to be a great writer, we just want the facts from you.
- Don't get bogged down writing about your history, the important stuff is your forthcoming news, the stuff you have planned or is about to happen.
- Attach low res images (2 or 3), check the size commonly used on the site, then you won't have to send massive images through.
- Attach links to tracks you are promoting (Soundcloud/Sendspace, etc)
- Magazines love exclusives, it helps us distinguish ourselves from other media. If we get the information first we are more likely to put it up than if you have already posted it on lots of other sites. Offering to combine the news feature with a free track giveaway or mix can also work well, we all know how popular these are, and a good way to get readers attention.
- Keep media like Kmag up to date on a regular basis, to build a relationship for when you really need the press i.e. when you have have an album being released.
